Thrive Helps Girls with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

Thrive Girls Ranch & Home understands that you want to find help for your struggling teen girl who may be suffering with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. We provide therapy for girls like her at our affordable, specialized boarding school program, set in a safe, positive and structured environment near Austin, Texas.

What is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder?

We can help your daughter as she deals with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, an anxiety disorder characterized by unwelcome and continual thoughts, feelings, ideas and sensations.

Her nonstop cycle of unwanted thoughts (obsessions) leads to attempts to defuse them by engaging in compulsive actions. Even though she will know that the thoughts or behaviors are disproportionate, she will get only fleeting reprieve by performing the compulsive behaviors.

This can be even more anxiety-producing, with fear of germs, illness disease, mistakes, insistence on symmetry or precision, undesired urges to hurt someone, or unacceptable sexual thoughts.

Her usual compulsions may be excessively ritualistic, like repeatedly counting or saying specific words, repetition of everyday activities (in/out of a doorway, turning on/off the stove, open/closing a drawer), hoarding (especially items with no visible value), consumption of foods in a precise order.

*Note: while sometimes used interchangeably, OCD is not to be confused with OCPD, or Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder. An OCD sufferer has unwanted thoughts and understands they are senseless, while an OCPD sufferer believes her thinking to be appropriate and natural.

Helping Girls With Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

If not treated, your girl might suffer additional problems (although not all caused directly by OCD): depression, eating or anxiety disorders, poor quality of life and suicidal thoughts (or behavior).

Cognitive behavior therapy is most efficient, often in conjunction with medication, in helping her confront her OCD unease and anxieties in healthy ways.  Anti-depressants (particularly ones that interact with the brain’s serotonin production) may also be useful in mitigating symptoms of OCD.

Your Teen Girl Can Change and Thrive

Thrive Girls Ranch & Home offers life transformation to girls who struggle with life-controlling and self-destructive behaviors or attitudes like Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. We provide therapeutic counseling to each individual girl, plus daily learning experiences and activities that nurture a true change of heart–and help her thrive in life.

We also desire to see every girl discover her God-given potential, and live out our core values of integrity, compassion, community, vision, stewardship, servanthood, and faith in Jesus Christ.

At Thrive Girls Ranch & Home, teen girls receive fully accredited middle and high school curriculum through Alpha Omega Academy. We also offer extensive academic recovery options, and help her prepare to transition into a normal, healthy lifestyle in college, ministry or the workforce. And because we highly value family restoration, parents can visit their girl once a month, and receive good insight on improving family relationships.
